LearningbyGoing is shaped by a diverse group of partner institutions from Switzerland and Canada. Each partner brings its own educational background, institutional culture, and field experience to the project.
Together, the partners create a space for exchange, collaboration, and mutual inspiration. Their shared goal is to strengthen vocational education through international dialogue and practical cooperation.

GBS St. Gallen

GBS St.Gallen is the largest vocational and higher education center in Eastern Switzerland and has been established in St.Gallen since 1789. As a major educational center, GBS St.Gallen is committed to high quality and operates 10 different locations in the city. 

Over 4,500 apprentices from 12 cantons of Switzerland and from the Principality of Liechtenstein attend lessons each week in one of our five departments: Building, Services, Design, Technology and Federal Vocational Baccalaureate in approximately 50 basic vocational training programs, and 600 students participate in continuing education. GBS St.Gallen has been involved in international projects within the Erasmus and Erasmus+ frameworks since 2011. 

With numerous Erasmus+ and Mobility projects already completed, we have been able to expand a very good network of vocational schools in Europe: LINK, Kosmopolis, LINK 2, Commercialpolis, THINK!digital , CreativeSkills-21, Learning and teaching crossing borders, Swiss-Cove InnoVET - Innovation by Internationalsiation, METAVERSE - Learning and teaching in the Metaverse, LearningbyGoing VET cooperation are just some of the projects of the last decade

Alongside vocational training, general education and sports, we also offer a comprehensive selection of optional courses for talent development comprising vocational aspects, performance enhancement, foreign languages ​​and much more. We form part of an international network, work in a project-based approach and maintain regular exchange with partner schools from Finland to Portugal and from Reykjavík to Tirana.

BBZ Olten / Solothurn-Grenchen

BBZ Olten 

The regional vocational training center impresses with its flexible and diverse educational offerings. It imparts skills for future-oriented careers, thus strengthening the job market.The Olten Vocational Training Center consists of four sub-schools:

  •  Olten Health and Social Vocational School (Basic Vocational Training and Advanced Nursing School)
  •  Olten Commercial and Industrial Vocational School
  • Olten Commercial Vocational School
  • Olten Adult Education Center


In total, around 4,200 students and adults complete their basic or advanced vocational training in 25 professions at the BBZ Olten. 260 teachers and lecturers teach the young professionals with enthusiasm and dedication. The primary focus of many specialist teachers remains on professional practice, which leads to a strong connection between economic reality and the curriculum. This is a significant advantage for the students.

BBZ Solothurn-Grenchen

Flexible and comprehensive study programmes and courses are the key feature of the regional vocational training centre BBZSOGR, an integral part of the widely recognized Swiss dual system of vocational education and training. Graduates leave with a state-awarded diploma attesting a broad-based, solid portfolio of future-oriented practical and theoretical skills. This enables them to successfully integrate the strong and highly competitive Swiss labour market.

Furthermore, the BBZOGR offers part-time and full-time baccalaureate study programmes allowing graduates to directly pursue an academic career at a university of applied sciences or to access qualification programmes for university entrance (“passerelle”).

The BBZSOGR consists of five faculties:

  • The Commercial-Industrial Vocational School Solothurn
  • The Commercial-Industrial Vocational School Grenchen
  • The ZeitZentrum Grenchen (Grenchen Watchmaking School)
  • The Adult Education Center Solothurn-Grenchen
  • The Commercial Vocational School Solothurn

 

Yearly, some 3,500 students (apprentices, trainees and adult learners) pursue their primary or secondary vocational education at the BBZSOGR, having chosen one of 47 professions taught in accordance with the strict Swiss official regulations governing vocational education.

A closely-knit interdisciplinary team of 210 teachers and lecturers dedicates itself to supporting the students’ professional development with constant commitment and enthusiasm.

Many BBZOGR instructors are professionals in their own right and maintain close links to their industrial networks, thereby consolidating the students’ exposure to hands-on industrial practice that goes beyond mere academic teaching in the classroom – an important benefit for students of all ages.

Douglas College

Douglas College is recognized by the British Columbia Education Quality Assurance program. BC's EQA Designation is a provincial seal that is recognized globally as a symbol of quality education and consumer protection. Founded in 1970, Douglas College is the largest college in British Columbia, Canada, educating close to 25,000 students per year. The College has two major campuses in Metro Vancouver (New Westminster and Coquitlam) as well as several smaller training centres in Surrey, Burnaby and Maple Ridge. With both main campuses directly on SkyTrain lines, Douglas is one of the most accessible post-secondary institutions in Metro Vancouver, drawing students from across the region.
Douglas offers the most bachelor's degrees and post-degree programs of any college in B.C., and is noted for combining the academic foundations of a university with the career-ready skills of a college.

Each year, close to 17,000 students (including 4,210 international students from over 92 countries) take for-credit courses at Douglas. Because of the college's strong academic base, the majority of these for-credit courses transfer to different research universities in B.C. and across Canada, providing students with flexible pathways to reach their academic goals.
 
Douglas also offers hundreds of short-term, high-quality non-credit courses, programs and workshops to around 8,500 students through Continuing Education and The Training Group, in areas such as business, music, health, perinatal, career development, industry training and more. Over 960 experienced, teaching-focused faculty bring both academic rigor and real-world experience to the classroom at Douglas. Outside the classroom, over 900 other employees work together to create a friendly, inspiring, supportive and respectful environment.
